Psoriasis Awareness Month (August)
Psoriasis Awareness Month
August is Psoriasis Awareness Month. We wanted to share with you the symptoms, causes, and treatments of Psoriasis.
August is Psoriasis Awareness Month. Being one of the most uncommon illnesses, psoriasis effects over 20,000 individuals every single year. Although some of these cases are rectified, some are abandoned, causing more complications because people are unaware of the warning signs.
The warning signs of psoriasis include:
- 1 Red skin patches
- 2 Dry Skin, leading to bleeding
- 3 thick nails
- 4 Stiffness
However, it is not only down to the physical warning signs. Psoriasis can also be caused by other factors such as:
Family history
Stress
Smoking
Obesity
Vitamin deficiencies
Psoriasis can be caused by something as simple as a small cut or burn. It is so important to know the signs and what actions to take if you believe that you could have become infected.
Living with psoriasis is not easy. Not only is it uncomfortable, but it increases your risk of becoming diabetic. However, there are many ways you can lower this risk of gaining these including:
Frequently exercising
Having a good, balanced diet
Maintaining a low alcohol consumption
There is always an increased risk, but these recommendations can lower that risk significantly. However, you still must remain vigilant of signs and symptoms.
It’s completely changed my life. When I was diagnosed back in 2014, I never knew the impact it would have. Luckily for me, I have a good support system – but I’d hate to imagine what it’s like to face it alone.
A Customer Suffering with Psoriasis
Many charities have been brought to life by those who have suffered psoriasis, such as The Psoriasis Association, Psoriasis UK, and The National Psoriasis Foundation.
If you think you may be suffering with psoriasis, don’t suffer in silence. Thousands of individuals around the world are diagnosed with psoriasis every year. You are NOT alone.
